What is Ozobot Trick-or-Treating?

Ozobot Trick-or-Treating is a STEM lesson where students use Ozobots—tiny robots that can follow lines and execute commands using color codes—to "trick or treat" along paths they design themselves. The activity integrates creativity with computational thinking, making it an exciting way to introduce young learners to the basics of coding and robotics.

Materials Needed

To run this activity, you’ll need a few basic materials:

  • Ozobot robots (one per student or group)

  • Paper lunch bags

  • Markers, crayons, and Ozobot markers (black, red, blue, green)

  • Large sheets of white paper for drawing paths

  • Optional: Ozobot magnetic tiles for more advanced coding

How the Activity Works

The students first decorate their Ozobots, dressing them up in Halloween-themed costumes. They can either use the provided templates or create their own designs, allowing for plenty of creativity. Then, using large sheets of paper and markers, they draw paths for the Ozobots to follow, simulating a trick-or-treat route from one house to the next.

The paths are drawn with black lines, and students can add color sequences to program their Ozobots to perform special tricks, like spinning or speeding up, as they move along the path. This is where computational thinking comes into play, as students use sequences and simple loops to guide their Ozobots through the trick-or-treating adventure.
