Create a Hispanic Heritage Month bulletin board that introduces students to people who have made a difference in science, art, literature, sports, and their communities!
Our Inspiring Figures Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month Poster Set makes it easy to build a meaningful classroom display that encourages curiosity and starts conversations.
Whether you are decorating an elementary classroom, STEM lab, library, or hallway, these posters give students opportunities to discover new role models and imagine possibilities for their own futures.
Start with an Inspiring Bulletin Board Title
The set includes printable heading pieces that spell out “Leaders, Dreamers, Doers: Hispanic and Latino Heritage in Action.” Use this heading as the centerpiece of your display, then arrange your selected posters underneath or around it.
Choose a simple background and coordinating border so the people featured on the posters remain the focus. Hang the posters at a height where students can comfortably see the names and read the short descriptions.
Have a smaller bulletin board? Display a few figures at a time and rotate the posters as you introduce additional people throughout the month.
Introduce Students to a Variety of Role Models
The poster set features 41 individuals representing a range of careers, interests, and contributions. You can create a display with people from several fields or select figures who connect to your current lessons.
Some of the people featured include:
Ellen Ochoa: Astronaut and engineer, and the first Latina in space.
José M. Hernández: Astronaut and engineer.
Mario Molina: Chemist and ozone researcher.
France Córdova: Astrophysicist and former NASA chief scientist.
Frida Kahlo: Painter.
Celia Cruz: Singer known as the Queen of Salsa Music.
Roberto Clemente: Baseball player and humanitarian.
Sonia Sotomayor: The first Latina U.S. Supreme Court justice.
Sandra Cisneros: Poet, short story writer, and novelist.
Dolores Huerta: Co-founder of United Farm Workers.
Introduce each person individually, helping students learn about their background and contributions. Pair the posters with age-appropriate biographies, read-alouds, or research materials to explore their stories more deeply.
Connect Your Bulletin Board to STEM Learning
For a STEM classroom bulletin board, start with the scientists, engineers, and astronauts included in the set. Display Ellen Ochoa, José M. Hernández, France Córdova, Mario Molina, and Luis Walter Alvarez together to introduce students to different STEM careers.
Use their work as a starting point for questions such as:
What kinds of problems do scientists and engineers investigate?
What would you like to learn about space?
How can science help us understand and care for Earth?
What is something you would like to discover or invent?
Extend the display with a related classroom activity. Students might design a model spacecraft, record questions about the atmosphere, or draw themselves working in a STEM career. These are optional extensions you can add alongside the posters.
Make the Display Interactive
Leave space on your bulletin board for student thinking. Add a section labeled “Who Inspires You?” and invite students to contribute drawings, sticky notes, or short written responses.
Try these simple sentence starters:
“I am curious about…”
“Something I learned is…”
“This person inspires me because…”
“One way I can help my community is…”
Younger students can draw a response and dictate a sentence. Older students can research a featured person and write a short paragraph explaining their contributions.
As students add their work, the bulletin board becomes a record of what your class is discovering.
Feature One Person at a Time
Keep students connected to the display by introducing a featured person during morning meetings, read-aloud time, or the beginning of STEM class.
Read the person’s name and description together, then share an additional resource about their life. Invite students to ask questions and make connections to what they are learning.
This approach makes the display manageable for busy teachers while giving students time to learn about each person beyond a name and picture.
Keep the Learning Going Beyond Hispanic Heritage Month
These posters can continue supporting classroom conversations throughout the year. Include authors near your classroom library, scientists in your STEM space, and artists beside student artwork.
Ready to create your own display? Use the Inspiring Figures Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month Poster Set to build a bulletin board that celebrates contributions, encourages questions, and helps students explore the many ways people can make a difference.
