Silent Jingle Bells STEM Activity
One of our favorite ways to increase student engagement during the craziness of the holidays is with STEM. To make it easy for teachers to implement STEM during this busy time in the classroom, we have compiled a list of 12 Days of Christmas STEM activities.
Our Day 7 activity is silent jingle bells. Follow these step-by-step instructions to engage your students in this fun, hands-on STEM challenge!
SILENT JINGLE BELLS STEM ACTIVITY
Material List (for each group of 3-4 students):
1 small plastic container
1 jingle bell
Divide students into groups of 3-4.
Give each group the materials listed above. Challenge students to use the materials to stop the jingle bell from making noise. Students will place one jingle bell in the plastic container and try to muffle the sound using the tissue paper, pom poms, and tinsel.
Allow students approximately 10 minutes to plan their design individually and another 10-20 minutes to plan as a team. Students will have 30 minutes to create and test their designs. In order to successfully complete the challenge, the jingle bell must not be heard when the plastic container is shaken.
This activity is fun for students to complete during the Christmas season! For more information, in depth teacher instructions, student handouts, a STEM journal, and student planning and reflection pages, view the full resource HERE.
