Disguise a Gingerbread Man STEAM Activity
One of our favorite ways to increase student engagement during the craziness of the holidays is with STEM. To make it easy for teachers to implement STEM during this busy time in the classroom, we have compiled a list of 12 Days of Christmas STEM activities.
Our Day 4 activity is a Gingerbread Disguise STEAM activity. Follow these step-by-step instructions to engage your students in this fun, hands-on STEAM challenge!
GINGERBREAD DISGUISE STEAM ACTIVITY
pencils and erasers
markers, crayons, and/or colored pencils
Begin the activity by reading The Gingerbread Man by Karen Schmidt. After reading, explain to students that they will draw and disguise a gingerbread man to keep him from being eaten by the fox.
Have students draw their own gingerbread man or use the directed drawing template included in our gingerbread man STEAM resource. Next, have students create at least 3 disguises for their gingerbread man out of construction paper.
Allow students time to plan out their designs. Give students approximately 30 minutes to construct their gingerbread man disguises.
At the end of the activity, be sure to have students choose their favorite disguise and glue it to the gingerbread man. The remaining disguises can be stored in a plastic baggie.
This activity is always a huge hit with students during the Christmas season! For more information, in depth teacher instructions, student handouts, a STEM journal, and student planning and reflection pages, view the full resource HERE.
