Bring the magic of STEM to life with a Wizarding Family Night!

This themed event transforms your school into a wizarding experience full of hands-on challenges, teamwork, and creativity.

Students and their families rotate through STEM centers where they test their engineering skills, experiment with science, and think like real problem-solvers!

These activities are perfect for your Harry Potter loving students.

Here’s a closer look at each STEM center you can include in your event:

1.) Potion pH Lab

In this hands-on investigation students learn about acids and bases. Then, they test different liquids like Dragon Fizz (soda) to find the pH.

2.) Owl Test Flight

In this engineering challenge students create an owl paper airplane and see how far it can travel.

3.) Sorting Ceremony

For this hands-on math activity students take a quiz and use the results to figure out which wizarding house they belong to. After students complete the quiz, they will add their house crest to a collaborative graph.

4.) Herbology

For this station students will plant a seed. Students will be able to bring their seed home so they can take care of it and watch it grow.

6.) Charms Class

The charms class activity involves students writing a secret message with lemon juice. After the message dries a hair dryer or heat gun can be used to reveal the secret message.

7.) Mystical Measures

For this challenge students will make a prediction about the weight of different “magical items”. Then they will weigh each item and compare the actual weight with their prediction.

8.) Wand Works

At the wand works station students will use different materials such as wooden dowels and pipe cleaners to create their own wands.

10.) Care of Magical Creatures

At this station students will dissect an owl pellet and see what bones they can find inside.

12.) Spellbound Sketches

At this station students will create a magical scene using the finish the picture pages.

14.) Code and Fly: Broomstick Mission

For this unplugged coding challenge students will create a path and then follow the steps to code their way through.

15.) Wizard Portrait Studio

At the wizard portrait studio photo booth students and families can grab a prop and strike a pose.

Hosting a Wizarding Family STEM Night is a fun, hands-on way to build excitement for learning, strengthen home-school connections, and help students see themselves as creative problem-solvers.
