Mae Among the Stars STEM Activity

Mae Among the Stars STEM Activity
Engage Students with Mae Jemison STEM Challenge!
Students love learning about Mae Jemison by completing this STEM challenge! This works well for both Black History Month and Women's History Month.
Reading passages teach students about how Mae Jemison was the first African American Woman in space. Designing and building a rocket to launch into space helps solidify the lesson in a hands-on way!
Perfect companion activity to Mae Among the Stars by Roda Amhed.
This activity helps students develop critical thinking and engineering skills. Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.
A writing activity is included for students to write about what they learned about Mae Jemison during the project.
Aligns with NGSS(Next Gen Science Standards).
